Truckers on strike against e-challans in Maharashtra

Jul 3, 2025

Truckers in Maharashtra went on an indefinite strike on Wednesday to protest against the e-challan system and press for other long-pending demands, disrupting goods transport services across the state, a transporters’ representative said. The transporters have complained that the recovery process by authorities has become aggressive and is disrupting business operations, besides imposing fines for e-challans. The Vahatukdar Bachao Kruti Sanghatana, an action committee of transporters’ associations, gave the strike call. While the truckers began the strike from midnight, bus operators have deferred their participation for the next few days.

Uday Barge, convener of the action committee, said that 1.5 lakh and 2 lakh trucks and other goods-carrying vehicles in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra would go off the roads due to the strike, as per a report.

AIMTC welcomes government’s positive step; advises to resume normal operations

Meanwhile, in light of the Maharashtra government’s constructive approach and commitment to resolving the longstanding issues faced by the road transport sector, the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) welcomed the formation of a 10-member committee, constituted vide Government Resolution (GR) issued late on Tuesday night. The committee has been entrusted to examine the core issues and submit its report within one month.

The Managing Committee Members of AIMTC from Maharashtra, after due deliberations, have unanimously decided to advise all members in Maharashtra and across the country to continue plying their vehicles as usual.

If no satisfactory resolution is arrived at within the one-month period, the situation will be reviewed in consultation with all stakeholders to decide the further course of action.

“We appreciate the proactive and responsive gesture of the Maharashtra government in constituting a high-level committee to address our long-pending concerns. AIMTC has always believed in constructive engagement with authorities, and this step reinstates our faith in dialogue-led resolution. We hope the committee’s report will pave the way for concrete actions. Meanwhile, we appeal to all our members to continue operations in good faith.”

AIMTC remains committed to working jointly with the government and all stakeholders for sustainable solutions and will keep the transport fraternity updated with future developments, it informed in a communique.
