Waterways traffic sees CAGR of 20.86% over the last decade
May 26, 2025
In FY 2024-25, India’s National Waterways achieved a record 145.84 million tonnes of cargo movement, a significant increase from 18.1 MMT in FY 2013-14. This growth translates to a CAGR of 20.86% over the last decade. The surge in cargo traffic is attributed to various infrastructure developments, including Multi-Modal Terminals (MMTs), Inter-Modal Terminals (IMTs), community jetties and floating terminals. Policy measures like the Jalvahak Scheme, which provides financial incentives to cargo owners, have also played a major role, highlighted an official communique.
