VPA sets cargo handling record
Dec 9, 2025
Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) has set a record by handling 60 million metric tonnes (MT) of cargo in just 249 days of the current financial year. In comparison, the same milestone took 273 days in 2024-25 and 275 days in 2023-24. The port has set a target of 90 MT this fiscal. VPA chairman Dr M. Angamuthu expressed happiness over the record, congratulating port staff, terminal operators and trade partners. He said the accomplishment reflects the dedication of employees and the trust of business partners. He added that the port will continue to enhance capacity, develop infrastructure, and advance digitalisation and green port initiatives.
In 2024-25, VPA handled 82.62 MT of cargo, its highest ever. The port recorded increased volumes across key segments, including crude oil, manganese ore, bauxite, rice and general cargo, despite global trade fluctuations and logistical challenges, as per a report.
