VOC Port handles its longest-ever vessel
Sep 16, 2026
V. O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) achieved a significant milestone on Monday by successfully berthing MV CMA CGM THORIUM, the longest vessel ever handled at the port.
With an LOA of 335.23 metres, a beam of 51 metres and a displacement of approximately 1.49 lakh metric tonnes, the vessel marks a major step forward in VOC Port’s capability to handle larger container vessels and strengthen its transhipment potential.
The vessel arrived from Santos, Brazil, carrying approximately 1,283 import TEUs and 2,174 restow/transhipment TEUs, with Singapore as its next port of call.

This achievement surpasses the previous record held by MSC Michela (304 metres) in December 2025 by more than 31 metres.
The successful berthing reflects the port’s marine infrastructure, navigational capabilities and operational preparedness, further strengthened by the recent addition of two new tugs, taking the port’s total to five.
The Port Authority extended its sincere appreciation and thanks to TICT, CMA CGM, the vessel’s crew, pilots, marine and operations teams, terminal personnel, agents and all stakeholders for their coordinated efforts in making this milestone possible.
A proud step forward as the port continues to strengthen its position as a preferred gateway and transhipment hub in the region, highlighted a communique.
