Nov 13, 2025
V. O. Chidambaranar Port (VOC Port), Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) has achieved another milestone with the successful handling of 103 windmill blades on a single ship on November 11, 2025. This is the first time such a large number of blades has been handled at the port, surpassing the earlier record of 101 blades exported on 22.08.2025, setting a new benchmark in renewable energy cargo handling, highlighted a release.
Marking a new milestone in sustainable trade, the port has achieved a total handling of 2,300 windmill blades up to October 2025 in the current financial year 2025-26, registering a 61% increase over the 1,425 blades handled up to October in the previous financial year 2024-25.
The blades, shipped through the vessel MV GHT MARINAS, arrived from the port of Qinzhou, China. The shipments are being handled at Additional Berth-II, with two harbour mobile cranes, ensuring safe and efficient handling. The Vessel Agency, Stevedoring, Custom House Agency and Ground Transportation are being handled by NTC Logistics India Pvt. Ltd.
Blades of 89.5 m and 76.8 m length require
specialised handling and dedicated storage arrangements. VOC Port has specialised storage infrastructure, including a dedicated storage area of 1,00,000 square metres within the Customs-notified area, and a vast space outside the Customs bond for accommodating such over-dimensional cargo. Congestion-free road connectivity and availability of skilled workforce are also key enablers of this historic achievement.
Mr Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, VOC Port, said in a message that this successful handling reflects the port’s efficiency, capability and commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy mission. The port is taking every effort to provide the best of its services in cargo handling, he added, as per the release.
