Vizhinjam Port tops container handling in South, East India

Vizhinjam Port has become the leading facility in South and East India in terms of the number of containers handled, according to a communique, and is on a continuous growth path due to its location and efficiency. Automatic handling of containers was one of the reasons it was able to generate high volumes in the first phase. Though its capacity was one million TEUs in phase one, each month it has been handling above designated capacity. The port handled around one lakh containers in April, which is primed for increase in the coming months, said a report.
