Vizhinjam International Seaport sets new benchmarks in just a year of operations

Handles over a million TEUs

In just one year since commencing commercial operations on December 3, 2024, following a successful trial period from July 11 to December 2, 2024, Vizhinjam International Seaport has achieved remarkable milestones, setting new benchmarks in global trade and connectivity.

 

 

 

In the year since operations began, Vizhinjam handled 542 vessels, including 23 Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs), and achieved a throughput of 1,165,785 TEUs. This performance reflects an exceptional 116% capacity utilisation, a rare accomplishment for a new port within its first year of operation. It was celebrated with a gathering at the port in the presence of Dr Divya S. Iyer, IAS, Managing Director, VISL and Mr Pradeep Jayaraman, CEO, AVPPL along with other officials.

The port has been developed and is operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) “This success reflects our commitment to building world class infrastructure and driving India’s maritime growth story,” a communique emphasised.
