Thar Dry Port flags off first Reefer Rake from its rail terminal at Sanand to Pipavav Port in collaboration with Maersk Line

Nov 24, 2025

The Thar Dry Port Sanand (A unit of Hasti Petro Chemical & Shipping Limited) has launched its Reefer Rake in collaboration with Maersk Line from ICD Sanand, near Ahmedabad, to Pipavav Port.

The weekly service from ICD Sanand can carry up to 43 Forty Feet containers in single stack formation per rake. A minimum of one such service per week will be increased to 2 services per week shortly.

The inaugural service was flagged off by Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad, Mr Ved Prakash, on November 17, 2025 from its rail terminal at Sanand to Pipavav Port.

The Reefer Rake was supported by state-of-the-art power packs to maintain precise temperature control throughout the journey, with dedicated technicians accompanying every rake, and the back-up support of ground teams to monitor conditions in real time.

Mr Ruchir Parekh, Managing Director of HPCSL, said that this new venture - Reefer rail service started for Pipavav and to be extended to Mundra Port as well - will provide the industry a reliable alternative to road transport and also help reduce carbon emissions.

On the same day, Mr Shravan Ram, Additional Commissioner (Customs), Ahmedabad, inaugurated HPCSL’s Reefer Container Yard.

The inauguration of the yard and flag off of the first rake was also attended by senior Maersk Line officials from various offices in Gujarat and Delhi.

This service demonstrates how rail-sea integration can help provide much-needed cold chain logistics infrastructure for exporters in Gujarat.

The initiative also confirms HPCSL’s commitment to delivering efficient and reliable cold chain logistics across Western India, highlighted a communique.
