Straits Orient Lines makes maiden call at Vizhinjam International Transhipment Port

Aug 6, 2025

Straits Orient Lines Pte Ltd (SOL), Singapore, proudly commemorated a major milestone with the maiden call of its vessel SOL PIONEER at the Vizhinjam International Transhipment Port, Kerala, on July 30, 2025 at 11:30 hours.

This inaugural call underscores SOL’s dedication to enhancing regional connectivity and supporting India’s vision of becoming a prominent transhipment hub. The arrival of SOL PIONEER marks the beginning of a strategic partnership focused on improving cargo movement between the Indian Subcontinent and global maritime trade routes.

As one of the first feeder shipping lines to call at this modern deepwater port, SOL is proud to contribute to the transformation of India’s maritime logistics landscape. Vizhinjam’s strategic location—just 10 nautical miles from the key international east-west shipping lane—and its natural depth of over 20 metres make it an ideal gateway for handling large mother vessels and high-volume transhipment operations.

This aligns seamlessly with SOL’s mission to offer efficient, reliable and sustainable liner services across Asia and beyond.

Commenting on the occasion, SOL said: “Our maiden call at Vizhinjam reflects SOL’s long-term vision to expand our presence in South Asia. We recognise Vizhinjam’s potential to emerge as a world class transhipment hub and are excited to be part of its growth journey.”

SOL extended its sincere appreciation to Vizhinjam Port authorities, local agencies and all partners who played a role in making this milestone event a success. The company remains committed to expanding its network, building strategic alliances and supporting the development of global trade and logistics excellence, it emphasised in a communique.
