Seven empowered groups formed to defend fuel, fertiliser & supply chains: PM

Mar 25, 2026

Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi, while addressing the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, announced that the government has constituted seven empowered groups of ministers and senior officials to evolve comprehensive strategies covering fuel supply, supply chain resilience, fertilisers and other critical sectors impacted by the West Asia conflict. Mr Modi said the groups will work in a coordinated, time-bound manner to ensure India’s economic stability and energy security are protected against the ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement follows a full Cabinet Secretariat review of the conflict’s short, medium and long term implications across agriculture, petroleum, shipping, MSMEs and financial markets. The seven-group framework represents the government’s most structured institutional response to date, designed to fast-track decision-making and inter-ministerial coordination across sectors facing acute stress from the Hormuz blockade, according to a report.
