Second phase of Vizhinjam International Seaport development set to commence

The development of the second phase of the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala will officially commence on January 24, 2026, as per reports, bringing in investment to the tune of `9,700 crore by the port concessionaire Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt. Ltd (AVPPL), according to State Ports Minister Mr V. N. Vasavan. In the second phase, the port’s capacity will increase from 1 million TEU to 5 million TEU. The berth will be expanded from 800 meters to 2,000 meters, and the breakwater will be augmented from 3 km to 4 km. 

Further, new facilities such as a railway yard, multipurpose berth, liquid terminal and a tank farm will be set up. As per the Master Plan, the total investment in the second phase is `Rs 9,700 crore, the reports said.
