In line with his commitment to developing world class air infrastructure and enhancing connectivity, the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi graced the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. He also addressed the gathering on the occasion. The IATA 81st Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit (WATS) is being held from 1st to 3rd June. The last AGM in India was held 42 years ago in 1983. It brings together more than 1,600 participants, including top global aviation industry leaders, government officials and international media representatives. It is for the first time that the Prime Minister of India — or for that matter, any Head of Government from any country — has attended the IATA Annual General Meeting. This is a truly historic moment, not just for Indian aviation but for the global aviation community, emphasised a communique. “It is a matter of immense pride and honour for India to have our Hon’ble Prime Minister grace such a prestigious global platform. His presence underscores India’s growing prominence in global aviation and its pivotal role in shaping the future of air transport and connectivity.” This landmark occasion reflects the government’s strong commitment to strengthening civil aviation, promoting sustainability and fostering international collaboration. It also reaffirms India’s position as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets and a key stakeholder in the global logistics and transportation ecosystem. A proud moment for every Indian and a defining milestone in our aviation journey, the communique highlighted. The World Air Transport Summit will focus on key issues facing the aviation industry including Economics of the Airline industry, Air Connectivity, Energy Security, Sustainable Aviation Fuel Production, Financing Decarbonisation, Innovations, among others. Aviation leaders and media representatives from around the world will also get to witness India’s remarkable transformation in the aviation landscape and its contribution to the country’s socio-economic development, the communique added.
