Organic food exports down due to sluggish global demand: Minister

Dec 8, 2025

There has been a decline in organic food exports from India due to sluggish demand in the global market, global trade uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, temporary regulatory changes in destination countries, issues in certification and market perceptions, said the Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Mr Ravneet Singh, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. In FY25, 3.68 lakh tonnes of organic food were exported, valued at $665.97 million, compared to 2.61 lakh tonnes (valued at $494.80 million) in FY24. But this was lower than exports in FY23, FY22 and FY21. For exports to the US, exporters have to be certified by USDA-NOP [US Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program]-accredited certification bodies, and for export of processed food to the EU they have to be certified by EU-accredited certification bodies, as per a report.
