Nineteen ships carrying India’s energy still stranded

Mr Rakesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, confirmed at an inter-ministerial briefing that 19 vessels carrying LPG, crude oil and LNG destined for India remain stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. Ten are foreign-flagged — three LPG vessels, four crude oil tankers and three LNG carriers. The remaining are Indian-flagged — three LPG tankers, one LNG carrier and four crude oil tankers. Mr Sinha said India’s priority remains evacuating Indian-flagged vessels. Empty vessels are not yet being sent back for refills. Between 40,000 and 50,000 TEUs of Gulf-bound containers have been offloaded at Indian ports — JNPA alone absorbing roughly 25,000 TEUs — as carriers reroute cargo through India. BW Tyr and BW Elm transited Hormuz on March 28 — both broadcasting Indian ownership and Indian crew throughout, according to a report.
