Nearly 2,000 heavy electric trucks projected on Indian roads by FY27
Sep 7, 2026
India’s commercial heavy freight sector is accelerating toward zero-emission logistics, with nearly 2,000 heavy-duty electric trucks (HDETs) expected to hit the roads by FY27, driven by aggressive sustainability targets from major corporate fleets, logistics service providers and industrial conglomerates. As total cost of ownership (TCO) economics improve relative to conventional diesel haulage—supported by declining battery pack costs, higher charging efficiencies and key highway megawatt charging corridors—fleet managers are moving from pilot deployments to commercial fleet orders for long-haul and regional transport routes. The transition aligns with India’s national logistics policy goals to curb vehicular carbon emissions, reduce freight fuel import bills, and build resilient, sustainable supply chain networks across key industrial hubs, according to a report.
