Mumbai Port Authority unveils groundbreaking maritime innovations at India Maritime Week 2025
Oct 28, 2025
Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) is setting a new standard in maritime innovation at the India Maritime Week 2025, being held from October 27 to 31. Through an immersive pavilion experience, MbPA is showcasing its vision to redefine India’s maritime future, with a focus on sustainability, technological integration and global connectivity.
At the core of the pavilion are two cutting-edge interactive scale models: the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina: India’s Global Destination. These models represent MbPA’s long-term vision to transform Mumbai into a global maritime and leisure hub, combining both sustainability and innovation.
An immersive experience: The future of Mumbai’s waterfront
Visitors to the pavilion will be able to engage with the models through real-time, dynamic elements such as moving ships and yachts, accurately synchronised to actual port and marina operations. Augmented Reality (AR) overlays, powered by LiDAR-based spatial recognition, further enhance the experience, allowing guests to navigate the models and interact with various key terminal and marina zones. A Virtual Reality (VR) bay also offers a guided flythrough, taking visitors on a journey from curb to cabin, as well as from berth allocation to open water for boaters.
This pioneering approach integrates physical models with AR, VR and LiDAR technologies in a way never before seen at an Indian port. The entire system runs on a unified control and content pipeline, ensuring that the AR layer, VR scenes and physical model interactions are synchronised with precision. The result is an engaging, real-time digital twin of Mumbai’s future maritime landscape, offering both general visitors and industry professionals a comprehensive, interactive preview of the port’s transformation.
Technology, sustainability and human experience at the forefront
MbPA has combined precise physical models with sophisticated digital technologies—AR and VR—to present an integrated vision of the future. The AR layers, anchored by LiDAR, allow users to tap into immersive narratives around key port operations such as check-in, security, boarding, retail, waste and water management, berthing, and more. Visitors can explore these features at their own pace, gaining insights into the sustainable practices and technological innovations that will drive Mumbai’s maritime future.
The pavilion also features a range of accessibility and inclusion options, including multilingual captions, audio narration and intuitive wayfinding, ensuring an inclusive experience for all visitors.
A legacy of innovation and a vision for the future
Through this pioneering exhibition, the Mumbai Port Authority reaffirms its role as a leader in maritime transformation, positioning itself as a catalyst for India’s coastal development. The pavilion reflects MbPA’s commitment to creating a sustainable, resilient and technologically advanced maritime ecosystem that will contribute to India’s growth on the global stage.
MbPA has invited all attendees of India Maritime Week 2025 to visit its pavilion at NESCO Grounds, where they can explore Mumbai Port’s rich legacy and futuristic vision. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in an interactive quiz, with the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the port beyond its usual boundaries.
At India Maritime Week 2025, one can witness firsthand how the Mumbai Port Authority is shaping the future of India’s maritime industry—where innovation, sustainability and human experience converge to create a truly global destination, emphasised a release.
