Aug 7, 2025
The Maharashtra Cabinet has greenlit the development of a 105-km express freight corridor linking the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Palghar to the Samruddhi Expressway at Bharvir, Nashik district As per an official statement, the high-speed corridor will significantly cut travel time—from the current five hours to just one-and-a-half hours.
Designed to accelerate cargo movement from the western coastline to the hinterland, the corridor will be implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation over the next three years, at an estimated cost of `2,529 crore. Of this, approximately `1,500 crore will be sourced through loans from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited.
This strategic connector is poised to handle the anticipated surge in cargo throughput from Vadhvan Port, a flagship project under the Centre’s Sagarmala initiative. Once operational, the port is expected to evolve into a major node in international maritime trade, underscoring the corridor’s critical role in regional logistics infrastructure.
