Sep 9, 2025
The Maharashtra Cabinet has reportedly granted its approval to the Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor. The state government has sanctioned an immediate Rs 22,250 crore for land acquisition, with total administrative approval standing at Rs 37,013 crore. This project is designed to seamlessly connect major economic hubs like the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Navi Mumbai International Airport with the Mumbai Trans Harbour Sea Link, creating a new logistics and transport axis. The 126.3 km corridor will weave together key towns including Vasai, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and Panvel, while also integrating with a network of crucial national highways and expressways. The first phase will focus on constructing a 96.41 km stretch from Navghar to Balavali. Construction will be prioritised on the section that overlaps with the NHAI’s Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, ensuring synergy between the state and national projects, as per a report.
