Lines announce peak season surcharges

Jun 26, 2025

Leading global container shipping lines have announced a series of Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) effective from late June and July, it is learnt, citing strong seasonal demand, higher bunker costs, and continued disruption across key shipping corridors. The surcharges come as shipping activity near the Strait of Hormuz slowed and major European ports face ongoing congestion, with freight rates rising sharply on several high-volume trade lanes. The surcharge per container is reportedly $4,000 from the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East to the US and Canadian West Coast from mid-July, and $3,500-$4,000 per container to shipments from the same origin regions to the US East Coast and Gulf, depending on the origin points, as per reports.
