Kamarajar Port receives expressions of interest from 5 infrastructure giants

Kamarajar Port (formerly Ennore Port), on India’s east coast near Chennai, has received Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from five domestic and global infrastructure firms to develop its proposed dry bulk terminals. Executed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis, the project is designed to sharply scale up the port’s capacity for raw commodities. The scope of work features the construction of two fully mechanised bulk cargo berths, each measuring 425 meters in length and 30 meters in width. These upgraded facilities are engineered with deep drafts capable of handling massive Capesize bulk carriers ranging between 1,50,000 and 1,80,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT). The terminals will optimise the logistics and dust-free evacuation of essential industrial bulk cargoes like coal, limestone, gypsum and barytes, aligning closely with the port’s long-term throughput expansion goals, according to a report.
