India, Singapore ink MoU for green, digital shipping corridor

Sep 8, 2025

India and Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on establishing the Singapore-India green and digital shipping corridor (GDSC). Mr Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, exchanged the MoU with Mr Jeffrey Siow, Acting Minister for Transport of Singapore, in the presence of the PMs of the two countries.

Mr Sonowal said it was a landmark step that will strengthen green fuel supply chains, digital port clearances and sustainable shipping for a cleaner future. Under the MoU, both countries will work with industry partners to develop infrastructure and technologies that support the maritime sector’s transition to zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission fuels. The MoU also covers digital information exchange and joint research into emerging green technologies and solutions. The partnership is expected to support ongoing efforts in digitalisation and decarbonisation of the maritime sector, as per a report.
