India should push US to remove curbs on Chabahar Port: Afghanistan FM

India should push for the removal of US restrictions on the strategic Chabahar Port in Iran, said Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi at an interaction organised by industry chamber FICCI. He said Afghanistan wants optimum utilisation of Chabahar and wants India to raise the matter with the US. India and the US should make efforts to lift the restrictions, he said. India has long thought of using Chabahar for accessing markets such as Afghanistan, but the recent US tightening of sanctions on Iran has raised doubts over how it can be done effectively. Muttaqi also spoke of easing visa rules to boost trade, investment and people-to-people ties. He appealed for simplified procedures, as per a report.
