India’s trade performance resilient in Q1 FY26: Review

Jul 30, 2025

India’s trade performance remained resilient in the first quarter of the financial year 2026, according to the Monthly Economic Review report released by the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA). The report highlighted that total exports, including both goods and services, grew by 5.9% year-on-year (YoY) during the April-June period of FY26. Core merchandise exports, which exclude petroleum and gems & jewellery, saw an even stronger growth of 7.2% YoY. These figures reflect the strength and stability of India’s external sector even in the face of global economic uncertainties. The report data also highlighted that the foreign exchange reserves remained at a comfortable level, providing an import cover of more than 11 months. This is a strong indicator of India’s economic stability, helping cushion the economy from external shocks, as per a report.
