Oct 12, 2026
India’s logistics sector is expected to double in size to $600 billion by 2031-32 from around $300 billion currently, driven by infrastructure development, policy reforms and improved connectivity, said Mr Subhash Chandra Karol, Director, Logistics Division, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), while addressing PRISM 2026 – Powering Recognition: India’s Skill Movement, hosted by the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSC) in association with the National Skill Development Council here.
Speaking on structural logistics efficiencies, the official highlighted that overarching policy reforms, multimodal transport networks and digital platforms like the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) are successfully driving down aggregate logistics costs closer to the targeted benchmark of 8% of GDP. As investments in freight corridors, warehousing hubs and coastal shipping continue to scale, the improved cost structure is expected to significantly enhance the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing and export sectors, said a report.
