India’s GDP growth raised to 6.6 pc from 6.4 pc in 2025: IMF

Oct 17, 2025

India’s GDP growth outlook for 2025 has been raised to 6.6% from 6.4% earlier, while downgrading the GDP growth projections for 2026 to 6.2%, said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report for October 2025. Compared with the July WEO update, this is an upward revision for 2025, with carryover from a strong first quarter more than offsetting the increase in the US effective tariff rate on imports from India since July, and a downward revision for 2026. Compared with the pre-tariff forecast, growth is projected to be cumulatively 0.2 percentage points lower. IMF projects global growth at 3.2% this year and 3.1% next year, a cumulative downgrade of 0.2 percentage points since its forecast a year earlier. It added that it is premature to conclude that the shock triggered by the US tariff surge did not affect global growth, as per a report.
