India Post develops Delivery Duty Paid mechanism as it resumes postal services to US

Oct 17, 2025

India Post has resumed all categories of international postal services to the United States, following a temporary suspension that began in late August due to changes in US Customs regulations. To address these regulatory changes and restore service, India Post has developed a Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) mechanism in coordination with US Customs -approved qualified parties. This system was tested through operational trials in the Delhi and Maharashtra postal circles and is now being implemented nationwide. Under the DDP model, all applicable Customs duties are collected upfront at the time of booking in India and directly remitted to US authorities, enabling full compliance with the revised US import policy. The resumption of services is expected to significantly benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), artisans, traders and e-commerce exporters, as per a report.
