India enhances anti-dumping duty on jute goods imports from Bangladesh and Nepal

Oct 5, 2026

The Central government has increased anti-dumping duties on specified jute goods imported from Bangladesh and Nepal to protect domestic jute mills and farmers from undercutting caused by lower-priced imports. Based on recommendations from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), the revised trade protection framework addresses persistent price distortion in domestic markets, where subsidised imported jute hessian, sacking and yarn have weighed on local manufacturing margins. By recalibrating tariff barriers across key cross-border trade channels, the Ministry of Finance aims to stabilise domestic raw jute prices, protect livelihood security for Eastern India’s agricultural ecosystem and encourage industrial modernisation across domestic jute processing clusters, according to a report.
