Oct 15, 2026
India and Canada are actively accelerating negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with both nations targeting a finalised trade deal by the end of the year. High-level diplomatic engagements and technical discussions have gained significant momentum, focusing on expanding market access across critical sectors such as pharmaceuticals, information technology, engineering goods and clean technology. Indian officials, including Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr Piyush Goyal, have emphasised that fast-tracking these rounds of talks will unlock immense potential for bilateral commerce. Both governments are keen to leverage complementary economic strengths to scale up commercial exchanges and achieve their long-term bilateral trade targets. Stakeholders remain optimistic that ongoing diplomatic cooperation will successfully bridge remaining gaps ahead of upcoming leadership summits, according to a report.
