India Maritime Week 2025 marks a defining phase in India’s journey toward maritime self-reliance and, at the same time, transforming the country’s maritime sector into a global leader in line with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, said Mr Shashi Kiran Shetty, Founder & Chairman, Allcargo Group. While unlocking investment opportunities across shipping, ports, and shipbuilding, this prestigious platform will serve as a springboard for ideas, innovation, and global collaboration. By bringing together all key stakeholders of the maritime economy, this landmark event will reimagine India’s maritime self-reliance and position the country as a major force in the global maritime economy, he added.
The maritime economy is key to the country’s economic growth, with almost 70% of India’s trade by value and nearly 95% by volume passing through its ports. However, only a fraction of that trade is transported on Indian vessels, underscoring the urgent need to enhance indigenous shipping capacity and strengthen the shipbuilding ecosystem.
He urged the Central Government to develop shipbuilding infrastructure in upcoming ports like Vadhvan under the landlord model—similar to the way ports such as JNPA and Kattupalli were successfully developed as world-class port facilities—so that global and local ship manufacturers and engineering companies can establish plug-and-play facilities. Ideally, such zones could be declared as SEZs to attract large-scale investment and innovation. Without such an ecosystem, this industry may not thrive or achieve the scale required to make India a true global maritime power.
India Maritime Week 2025 will catalyse the nation’s transformation from being a participant in global maritime trade to a leader shaping a sustainable, technology-driven, and resilient logistics ecosystem—advancing the nation’s journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047, concluded Mr Shetty.
