Haifa Port sets sights on global hub status as vital link in India-Middle East-Europe Corridor

Israel’s Haifa Port is positioning itself as a central Mediterranean hub within the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). Co-owned by India’s Adani Ports and Israel’s Gadot Group, the strategic port forms the critical sea link connecting Middle Eastern rail networks directly to European maritime routes. The proposed corridor offers a faster, land-and-sea alternative to traditional shipping routes through the Suez Canal. By routing cargo through Indian ports, across Gulf rail systems, and out through Haifa, the route significantly cuts transit times between Asia and Europe. Regional security crises in the Red Sea have further underscored the need for such alternative trade pathways. To prepare for higher trade volumes, Haifa Port is expanding its container handling capacity and upgrading digital infrastructure. Despite ongoing regional tensions, port leadership continues investing in long-term modernisations to cement its role as a key gateway for multi-continental logistics, according to a report.
