Govt slashes export levies on petrol, diesel and jet fuel

Sep 21, 2026

The Finance Ministry has lowered export levies on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), effective September 16, reversing the rate increases introduced earlier in the month. In its latest fortnightly review, the government reduced the export tax on petrol by `1 to `0.5 per litre, while the total duty on diesel dropped by `5 to `20 per litre, and the ATF export levy fell by `4 to `15 per litre. The adjustments—recalibrated every two weeks based on average international product prices and refining cracks—provide tax relief for domestic private and public refiners exporting processed fuels.
