Global iron ore shipments dip by 4.4 pc to 30.7 million tonnes as Brazil, Guinea, India flows weaken
Sep 24, 2026
Global seaborne iron ore shipments contracted by 4.4% week-on-week to 30.7 million tonnes (mt) for the week ended September 11, 2026, falling from 32.1 mt in the previous week, according to industry vessel tracking data. Increased export volumes from Australia, Canada and South Africa were outweighed by notable shipment contractions across major Atlantic suppliers and emerging exporters, including Brazil, Guinea, Liberia, India and Chile. The primary drag on global volumes stemmed from Brazil, where elevated Brazil-China freight rates and softening procurement appetite from European steelmakers led to reduced vessel nominations. Similarly, Indian exports remained constrained as seasonal monsoon rains hampered domestic mining and loading operations along the east coast. Meanwhile, Australian loading activity rose 3% across key Pilbara ports, supported by steady demand for medium-grade fines from Chinese mills. However, it was insufficient to prevent the overall global weekly decline, said a report.
