GDP up at 6.9 pc in Q1FY26: SBI

Aug 25, 2025

The Indian economy likely achieved a robust growth rate between 6.8 and 7% in the initial quarter of the current fiscal year, surpassing the Reserve Bank of India’s projection of 6.5%, according to State Bank of India (SBI) analysis. As per the assessment, GDP growth stands at 6.9% for the quarter, whilst Gross Value Added (GVA) is calculated at 6.5%. SBI’s nowcast model indicates real GDP growth at 6.9% year-on-year for the reference period. Initial estimates say Q1FY26 GDP could be at approx. 6.8%-7%. The assessment indicates that this forecast aligns with previous quarterly patterns, with underlying factors ensuring steady progression and adjustment, positioning the current estimate within the model’s suggested medium-term growth trajectory. Nevertheless, it anticipates GDP growth at 6.3% for the complete financial year FY26, as per a report.
