Gaurav Dayal appointed Chairperson of JNPA

The Central Government has appointed Mr Gaurav Dayal, IAS, as the new Chairperson (Joint Secretary level) of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India’s premier container handling port, under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, for a period of five years from his date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier. 

An IAS officer of the 2004 batch, UP cadre, Mr Dayal has two decades of administrative experience handling key responsibilities in the state government, including District Magistrate and Collector at multiple locations, Divisional Commissioner of Aligarh and Ayodhya, and Secretary in the Home & Vigilance Department.

Mr Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Deputy Chairperson of JNPA, had been holding additional charge as Chairperson since January 2024. Mr Wagh had taken charge as Deputy Chairperson in February 2020.

Mr Wagh is also in charge of the mega Vadhvan Port project in Palghar, Maharashtra (north of JN Port) as CMD, Vadhvan Port Project Ltd (VPPL).
