DRI seizes 364 MT of Pakistan-origin dry dates worth Rs 3 cr. at Kandla Port

In a major crackdown on illicit transhipment networks attempting to bypass trade sanctions, the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted 13 shipping containers containing 364 metric tonnes (MT) of Pakistan-origin dry dates valued at Rs 3 crore at Kandla Port in Gujarat. The consignment was falsely declared as originating from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to evade India’s absolute prohibition on direct or indirect imports originating in or exported from Pakistan, enforced under Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) Notification No. 06/2025-26. Investigations revealed that the cargo was initially shipped from Pakistan to Dubai, where it was re-stuffed into different containers and issued fraudulent origin documentation before being exported to India. Seized under the Customs Act, 1962, this enforcement action follows a similar recent DRI seizure of Rs 1.4 crore worth of Pakistan-origin Guggul resin misdeclared as Somali imports at Tuticorin Port, according to a report.
