Dedicated Freight Corridor sees 6x surge in operational throughput in just four years
Dec 11, 2025
DFCCIL’s journey of accelerating India’s freight movement continues with remarkable year-on-year growth in trains operated per day.
From just 65 trains/day in 2021-22 to 389 trains/day in 2025-26 (till Nov.), the Dedicated Freight Corridor has witnessed a 6x surge in operational throughput in just four years.
This growth isn’t just a number, it reflects enhanced capacity, seamless operations, and the trust of India’s freight ecosystem in the DFC network.
What’s powering this rise?
* Implementation of high-speed, heavy-haul rail infrastructure
* Prioritised movement of freight with zero interference from passenger traffic
* World-class signalling, electrification & operations planning
* Coordinated efforts by teams across both corridors
* Growing confidence of industries in DFC’s reliability and turnaround time
DFCCIL joins IHHA
Meanwhile, DFCCIL has achieved another proud milestone on the global stage by becoming a member of the International Heavy Haul Association (IHHA), the premier global forum for heavy haul and high-capacity rail operations.
This landmark step marks DFCCIL’s growing global stature as an emerging leader in heavy haul freight transportation, joining an elite community of international rail organisations committed to advancing excellence, innovation, and sustainability in freight movement — further strengthening India’s position in the global rail freight ecosystem, emphasised a communique.
