Sep 18, 2026
The foundation stone for Kerala’s first dedicated Container Freight Station (CFS) has been laid as part of the new government’s 100-Day Action Plan. The facility is reportedly located approximately 15-20 minutes from Vizhinjam International Seaport.
The implementing agency is Kerala State Industrial Enterprises Limited (KSIE), under the Industries Department, with the project being developed at an estimated investment of `25 crore. The first phase will come up on 5 acres within the premises of Trivandrum Spinning Mills at Balaramapuram.
The CFS will provide facilities for Customs inspection, temporary warehousing, document verification and other logistics-related activities, with a proposed capacity of around 2,000-2,500 TEUs per month. It will also have dedicated plug-in facilities for reefer containers and support temperature-sensitive cargo, as per reports.
