Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor on track for November 2027 commissioning

The long-delayed `3,570-crore Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor is on track to become operational by November 2027. It is learnt that the 20.9-kilometre project, being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has achieved 25% to 27% physical progress. To support the launch, the port is separately investing `37.18 crore in internal road and intersection upgrades. The four-lane expressway features a unique double-tier design to segregate traffic along the Cooum River. The lower deck will be toll-free, serving local city traffic with 13 strategic entry-exit ramps to ease urban bottleneck points. The upper deck will operate as a dedicated, tolled freight corridor, channelling heavy container trucks directly to Chennai Port’s Gate-10. This seamless 24/7 highway link is projected to eventually scale the port’s total cargo handling capacity to 200 million tonnes by 2047, according to a report.
