Amendments in LMPC Rule, 2021

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution vide its notification dated 2nd Novem ber, 2021 notif ied Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Amendment Rules, 2021.
Ministry vide these rules made the amendments in the existing Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. These rules shall come into effect from oist day of April, 2022.
Key amendments are as follows:
When one or more retail sale packages are grouped together for being sold as a retail or promotional offer, every package of the group shall conform to the requirements of decla ration to be made as per Rule 6.
The provisions of MRP declaration has been simplified by substituting the MRP Rs. xx.xx (inclusive of all taxes) with MRP in Indian Currency (inclusive of all taxes). This ease the MRP declaration for importer/manufacturer/packer .
Further, the requirements of declaration of date on the pre packed commodities is simplified and now month and year of manufacturing of the pre packed commodity shall be required to be mentioned.
Futhermore, now the quantities for items sold by number or unit,the number or unit or piece or pair or set or such other word which represents the quantity in the package shall be mentioned. Earlier the declaration could be made in U or N only.
